I want to take a Screenshot in WinUAE, How do I do it?
There are a couple of ways of taking screenshots in WinUAE. The first way if you have the newer version of WinUAE is to get to the point at which you want to take a screenshot. Press F12 then click on the "Output" tab and then "Save Screenshot". This will save a BMP image in the folder "ScreenShots" located in your WinUAE folder. The alternative way is to first open up your paint program and then open WinUAE. Get to the point you want to take a screenshot and press Print Screen on your keyboard. Once you have done this, press ALT+TAB so you can "select" your paint program and then go to Edit and then Paste.

 What is AGA and ECS?
AGA and ECS are the chips used to determine graphics. The ECS chipset is generally found in the older A500/A500+/A600 Series of the Amiga machine and the AGA chip is generally found in the A1200/A4000 machine. Obviously AGA is the better of the two as it can handle more colours on screen at one time. AGA software will not work on an ECS machine.

 What is an ADF file?
An ADF file is an Amiga Disk File image, basically its a whole disk put together into one file. ADF files can be created on an Amiga by using a program called Transdis. The file can then be sent to a PC via a serial cable using a terminal emulation program.

Is it possible to read Amiga disks on PC?
No it is not possible, however I have heard of ways of coverting a PC floppy drive to read Amiga disks but this is very complex stuff.

 What is a Kickstart ROM?
A Kickstart ROM is the brains of the amiga. To use an emulator you need the Kickstart converted into a file. Kickstart roms are still under strict copyright protection so Im afraid I can't supply you with any. If you have an Amiga, you can use a program called Transrom. Alternatively, you can purchase the Amiga Forever CD-ROM from http://www.amigaforever.com which contains Kickstart ROMS.

I have inserted a game and get a white screen, whats wrong?
OK, first thing we have to remember here is that you have to wait for it to load. Most games won't come up straight away and can take some time to load. If you have waited a long time and still have had no success, try switching around some settings like RAM, Kickstart etc. If that doesn't work then the game could be corrupt or the emulator just can't run it. In the new version of WinUAE (0.8.25) there is an option under "Sound" to enable drive noise emulation. By enabling this option, you will be able to "hear" the drive loading as you would if you were sitting infront of a real Amiga.

 What's the best Amiga emulator?
All of them have there good and bad sides. Fellow seems to be slightly faster than WinUAE but WinUAE seems to be more compatible. So I would say it's a good idea to have a copy of both emulators because if something doesn't work in one, it may work in the other.

How come some games/demos run slow?
The Amiga is a very complex machine, it's hard (perhaps impossible) to emulate it 100% so you will lose quite a bit of speed in games etc. The more powerful processor you have in your PC the more better games will run. I have an AMDK6-233 with 80MB RAM and games work (speedwise) about 80-90%. If you have problems running games, try reducing sound quality and try out some different display resolutions.

Can I convert DMS files to ADF?
Yes you can using a program called XDMS. The program is very simple to use, this is how you would convert a DMS file to an ADF file:

xdms u disk.dms

The above command will unpack disk.dms to disk.adf in the current directory.

Are Kickstart ROMS OK to distribute?
No, the Kickstart ROMS are still copyrighted.

Surely old commercial games are OK to distribute freely?
No they are not, the games are still under copyright which can last for up to 75 years. If you wish to provide games for download on your webpage, you first must seek permission from the author.

 Whats an ADZ file?
An ADZ file is a compressed version of an ADF file. The file has been compressed with a program called GZIP.
